Bob H. Stering The ShipOn November 12, members and guests of the Back Creek Yacht Club visited the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies in Linthicum, Md., home of  the world’s largest marine simulator installation. Skippers and crew members were provided an introduction to the "Tug Bridge Simulator" housed in a unique theater venue considered the finest in the world. “Captains” Richard Sanger and Bob Higginbotham piloted members through maritime waters with sound, visuals and physical simulations of thunderstorms, blinding blizzards, 40 knot winds, 30 feet waves while avoiding collisions with helicopters, planes and small craft in the waters.  Commodore-elect Bob even guided us out of Baltimore avoiding cruise ships, navy vessels and homeland security! If you ever wondered how our little yachts look to those on the bridge of 1900 ft. tanker, you saw it here.  This was quite an experience.

To top the evening off, the weary crew disembarked at G & M seafood for delicious dinners including giant crab bombs and all of the trimmings.  This was a great event planned by our Rear Commodore Jamie Ritter.     Pictures by Bill Kranzer

        "It's all about the people!"

BCYC is virtually the best group of boaters, both sail and power, on the Chesapeake! Known as Bak-Yakkers to our Members, we enjoy each others company and know how to have fun. We gather throughout the year at a variety of land and sea events, planned and hosted by our members.  No clubhouse to maintain, no high-priced dues, just great people mingling on or near the water.

If this intrigues you contact our Membership Chair at the link below and consider joining us at a future event shown on the Calendar and Events Page.  Details about membership can be found on the Membership page.
